| The novel itself is pretty violent, and the movie is just true to the book. I'd go so far as to say it really isn't a children's book. |

really I think Mount Rusmore looks just like it does on a postcard just bigger of course. With countless relatives and friends coming to visit it always happens the same: we drive for an hour to get there, pay $10 to park, walk up to the carving, after 30 seconds of looking at the carving whomever I'm ushering goes "hmm, well that's cool. let's go." best time I've had up there was with my back turned to the carving and watching a forest fire get put out with slurry bombers. maybe I'm just too jaded having lived here my whole life.
Hahaha, yeah, I'm gonna need something a little bigger than "Tiny"

I moved to T-mobile prepaid because I hardly make calls at all... I put $100 on the phone Mar 31 and as of now still have $45 left. Better yet I got this phone:http://www.plemix.com/phone-nokia-7373-phonebut I got it "used" (1 week old) on eBay and for $60. I use my phone as a clock, stopwatch, camera, and time-occupier (games, in doctors offices) more than I use it to make phone calls, so going from a $50/month contract to this was 100% the right decision for me.

Islam hasn't existed for 'thousands of years'. It has only been around for 1500 odd years. If you can't even get that tiny factoid right, what credibility does the rest of your screed warrant? You want to talk history? OK. Islam goes through periods of dark ages and resurgences of enlightenment like any other culturally linked belief system. It is a highly complex religion that cannot be easily simplified. When the Christian empire was in its own dark ages, the Islamic world was in a golden age, and they maintained knowledge of classical mathematics, art, philosophy and science while the Christians were huddled in huts picking lice off each other. The majority of Muslims in the world *aren't even in the Middle East* - and Islamic fundamentalists make up a tiny - but vociferous - minority of them. There are 1.3 billion Muslims in the world. If they were all crazy Jihadist *****, then we in the West would be utterly *****. They aren't, and we're not. Simplistic world views are for simpletons.

i came here to post this exact comment. if that's what qualifies as "facebook addict", it's a pretty low on the scale of serious digital addictions. there was a time when having no commitments, being awake for 16 hours a day meant i was in game approximately 16 hours a day.

I came to Japan to learn the language and improve a lot of my fighting styles, and in the past years have dabbled in quite a few. I'm no expert at any of them (wing tsu is my only real art) but I can tell you what I've seen from many of the meetups. 1. Karate- Effective, and they throw punches like nobody else. But recently, like a few others on this list, the practicality of it has been diminished for sake of easy training and traditionalism. 2. Judo- Ok, it's very very effective on a tatami mat, but the art teaches you to take others down and you're supposed to go with them. I'd hate to fight a judo expert on concrete but I know he'd get pretty roughed up too.3. Ninjutsu- My cross-training teacher is (I forgot the Japanese) a high apprentice and has been studying since he was 13 (27 now). He said that it's effective when you don't think of it like the movie version of ninjas...he's never used a sword and kunai were for prying things open, not for throwing. This guy was an utter ***** though. He had a pretty good trick...anytime, anywhere, you could ask him to shut his eyes and tell you how many people were in the room, just from the sound. Even as new people came in and others left. Sparring with him was just asking to have your self-esteem destroyed though. 4. Capoeria - I did this for a few weeks...this is the ultimate cross training assist. By itself, it's ultimately useless, but you will build an incredible leg energy, and your agility can sky rocket. Like Bruce Lee said, everyone has their own style of martial arts. Learn from 1 style, take what works for you, leave the rest, move to the next. |
