The record companies are ok with it because they like the subscription model. Instead of trying to sell you a physical or digital product here and there, they are much happier getting people to pay monthly to listen to music. Why scramble to try to get you to spend $50 today when they can get you to pay $15 a month for the rest of your life?I think most people still prefer to own the music, whether it's a physical medium or digital. And I'm sure most would be willing to pay for what they really want. They just need to have more options. We should be able to choose the songs we want in the digital format we want with no DRM at a reasonable price. I understand that it costs a lot of money to produce and market music, but if they focused on developing artists for the long term instead of trying to make something hot that they can sell as a ringtone, maybe they'd start making money again. However, I do think the big money making days for musicians is gone as far as music sales go. But if you can put on a good live show you'll be just fine.

I liked your reply but must confess I threw that out as a stimulus for out-of-the-box thinking. I tend to be agnostic mostly but I find it amusing that the abrahamic religions agree among themselves that they merely have different names for one single god. All seem to accept that without examination. That is, without good proof or argument. A favorite thing for me is leading people to examine their assumptions. Btw, I do agree that whatever else may be true of such acts they do not appear to be cowardly.

Don't get me wrong... The droid is a nifty phone, and would be downright revolutionary - if it had come out two years ago and there had never been an iPhone. But there IS an iPhone and it's quite obvious which is the superior product and who is playing catch-up.I also hate AT&T's service. But I can't say I'm a fan of Verizon's policies. Let's not forget that they had the opportunity to carry the iPhone but turned it down because they insisted on fully controlling the branding, interface and price structure on the device. Now they are forced to make concessions in order to offer something - anything - that at least comes close to the iPhone.I lash out against the droid in large part because of the extremely misleading advertising behind it.

Actually, wii uses video as well, but a very different approach to video. Bluetooth is the data transfer technique, not the motion capture technique.A more accurate comparison would be to say that wii uses accelerometers coupled with an IR-sensitive CCD camera to provide pointing and motion controls, while MS uses video capture and processing to detect player movements.Bluetooth has exactly dick to do with the difference in the technologies.

There's no need for "serious movement" for something that probably doesn't exist.On the other hand, some of the technologies proposed are pretty nifty. This particular article is little more than a summary, but I've seen proposals for shields in space that can be used to block sunlight a couple of percent. THAT is a neat idea, if only because it forces a space support infrastructure--which most Diggers are probably for. I'd gladly see things like that explored and implemented.
