Thank you Greywren, very good explanation. Basically, it's a version of the simplest explanation is probably correct. And MOND wants to come along and take a simple proven explanation, and add seemingly arbitrary modifications to it so that the predictions can fit the observations.If that's the case, that just sounds like bad science. I can see why it's ostracized. However, i'm always leery of just outright dismissing someone. I'm sure the first person to postulate that the sun didn't rotate around the earth sounded like a quack also, I mean, you CAN observe the sun moving in the sky, am i right. It took people to think outside the box and offer that the earth could be moving and the observations be the same.It might be that way with gravitational theories. Something comes along that looks at old theories in a new way. I'm not saying that MOND is it, but the moment you start eliminating things without having the full answer yourself, you don't know if you're actually eliminating the correct answer. |
