The idea is to make the box resonate at a much different frequency than the speaker inside it... that way, the speaker can't produce an ugly resonance. Concrete is relatively stiff, so it's a higher frequency than the midrange. It would work for the bass section, too, but that would make it weigh a ton (well, almost), so they just use lots of wood reinforcements in a grid shape (hence the name "matrix").

They are well known to give favorable reviews of ***** products (hello, Microsoft?) from big advertising clients.Having said that, the article you referenced is actually an indictment of AT&T's ***** service - not the iPhone itself. I live in South Florida, and the call quality and dependability here are adequate if not fantastic. The iPhone's features and quality vastly outweigh the occasional service inconvenience. Now for people in San Francisco or NYC, the network issue is more significant. If I lived in either of those cities I might find it more difficult to tolerate AT&T.CORRECTION: The article is from CNet.UK so the service issue is with O2, apparently AT&T's twin in the UK. Same difference, though - it's a network capacity problem, which is not the phone's fault.
